An Introduction to Human Resource Analytics

Presented by: David E. Caughlin, Ph.D. and Kelsey Kline, Ph.D.

In response to the growing interest in data analytics, this session offers an introduction to HR analytics by reviewing important considerations when acquiring, managing, and analyzing HR data and telling a story based on the findings.

The session provides a conceptual overview of human resource (HR) analytics as an approach to data-informed decision making regarding people at work. Subtopics include challenges and opportunities associated with acquiring and managing HR data, choosing an appropriate analysis, and telling a compelling and accurate story based on data-analysis findings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define human resource (HR) analytics.
  • Explain the value of using HR data to inform decision making about people at work.
  • Identify examples of data-analytic tools and techniques along the analytics continuum.
  • Describe different considerations when storytelling with HR data.
