&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;line-height: 115%; font-size: 10pt&quot;&gt;In the last several years, the United States Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed its support for arbitration as an expeditious and economical method of resolving employment and other legal disputes.&amp;nbsp; Despite this strong support, many businesses have been reluctant to require employees to agree to arbitrate their employment-related disputes as a condition of their employment.&amp;nbsp; This luncheon session will provide HR professionals with a primer on arbitration law in order to assist them in determining whether implementation of an arbitration program might be advisable.&amp;nbsp; The session will also include a detailed discussion of the pros and cons of arbitration and emphasize the essential attributes of an arbitration program that will pass legal muster and assist companies in reducing legal costs and potential liability. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

About the Speaker:&amp;nbsp; &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Michael Garone&lt;/strong&gt; is a shareholder at Schwabe, Williamson &amp;amp; Wyatt and is currently serving as PHRMA&amp;rsquo;s general counsel.&amp;nbsp; Mr. Garone has practiced labor and employment law in Portland for over 30 years, with a special emphasis in the law of arbitration.&amp;nbsp; In 2007, he authored a successful petition for a writ of certiorari and was counsel of record in a United States Supreme Court case, Hall Street Associates, L.L.C. v. Mattel, a case involving a legal issue of national importance in the field of arbitration law.&amp;nbsp; In late 2009 and early 2010, Mr. Garone was a principal petition and merits brief author in another case that was accepted for review by the United States Supreme Court, Rent-A-Center, West, Inc. v. Jackson, another case that involved an issue of national importance in the field of arbitration law.&amp;nbsp; Both cases taken to the Supreme Court by Mr. Garone were successfully prosecuted.&amp;nbsp; Mr. Garone has been named for several years by Chambers USA as one of the top labor and employment attorneys in the United States.&amp;nbsp; He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America and in the Super Lawyers publication.&amp;nbsp;&lt;b&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
