Session Title: The Pros and Cons of Social Networking and the Effect on HR

Session Summary: Social networking sites and companies are proliferating at an unprecedented rate. Employees are utilizing these services to communicate with one another and the outside world. With this new method of communication comes risk and rewards for employers who understand how the technology works, its appeal to their employees and how social networks might be utilized by employers to assist them in meeting strategic human resources objectives. We will also discuss some of the generational difference about how the social networking is viewed and employed.
Speaker Bio:
Isaac Dixon currently serves as the Associate Vice President and Director of Human Resources at Lewis and Clark College located in Portland, Oregon. Prior to moving to Lewis and Clark he was the Regional Director of Employment (and later Diversity) with Providence Health and Services also in Portland. Isaac has a long and distinguished career in HR having worked for companies like Unitus Community Credit Union, Nike and General Electric Capital Corporation as well as federal, state and local government agencies.
He has been awarded the Northwest Human Resources Management Association’s Distinguished Member Award on two different occasions and served on the Board of Directors of the Human Resources Certification Institute as well as the Board of Directors of the Society for Human Resources Management. He also had the pleasure of serving as President, Northwest Human Resources Management Association and currently serves on the board of the Northwest EEO Association.
Isaac also has a long history of community service having served on the Board of Directors of the Oregon State Bar Association, the Urban League of Portland and the Oregon State Bar’s Commission on New Judgeships. He currently serves on the Judicial Screening Panel of the Multnomah County Bar Association and the Membership Committee of the City Club of Portland.
He earned his BS in Business Administration from Warner Pacific College and his MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Marylhurst University. He has recently received his PhD. at Capella University in the area of Organization and Management. Isaac is also an adjunct faculty member at both Portland State University and Portland Community College. He resides in Portland with his wife Lauri.
