SIGs are a benefit for PHRMA members; no solicitations please.

SIGs serve two purposes:

  • Professional growth - discussing issues of interest, trends, successes
  • Networking - Opportunity to meet with others in HR specialty and build connections
Ideas for additional SIGs are welcome! Contact the Co-Directors for Special Interest Groups at: specialinterestgroups@portlandhrma.org

Registration for a SIG meeting is required. For information about dates and times for SIG meetings and to register please visit our Calendar of Events.

The OE SIG’s purpose is to answer the following practical, how-to questions for HR professionals:

  • How to approach strategic HR/organizational effectiveness following a proven, performance improvement approach?
  • How to set boundaries, set realistic expectations, and scope strategic HR/organizational effectiveness projects (and have a confidential sounding board of peers and pros to discuss your approach, strengthen your message, deepen your influence)?
  • How to position HR as a strategic business partner to business executives and units, contributing to desired business outcomes?
  • How to discern if a best strategic HR/organizational effectiveness practice from other organizations can be implemented in my organization, with internal clients

The Benefits and Compensation SIG offers an informal opportunity to discuss the constantly changing world of employee benefits and compensation. Skyrocketing insurance costs, and the increasing availability of comp and benefits info on the web have made employees much savvier about their total compensation packages than they've ever been. In addition, the influx of high tech into the Portland/Vancouver area in the past 5 years has upped the ante for all employers in the Pacific Northwest. Please join us to discuss these and other wide-ranging issues challenging benefits and compensation professionals today.

Our Diversity SIG is an important resource for PHRMA members interested in cultivating their diverse work force, customer and supplier base. Our emphasis is on welcoming and working with individuals of difference, races, cultures, genders, ages, physical and mental capabilities, religious beliefs, sexual orientations and educational backgrounds. Topics relate to managing multigenerational and intercultural workforces, implementing strategic diversity initiatives and addressing diversity related topics as requested by the PHRMA community. The Diversity SIG is expanding to include workshops to further explore the more complex issues relating to diversity.   The SIG also identifies community resources and notifies members of upcoming diversity related events.
