Mentorship Testimonials

“The beauty of being involved in the Mentorship program is… I learn more from the mentee than I could possibly hope to be giving back. An unexpected gift. So much of what we learn and espouse as HR Professionals resides somewhere in the deep recesses of the mind…experiences, successes and challenges reemerge though the intensity of the conversations and desire to move a colleague from one level to another. It’s great to rekindle my internal fire about my chosen profession and having it relit by someone so eager to move forward with theirs.”

 Daniel Killam, ODOT

Mentor, Spring 2015

“I enjoy mentoring – it gives me the opportunity to share some of the insights and successful approaches I’ve learned over the years, and get a chance to see HR from a different perspective.”

 Michelle Candelaria, Kohler Co.

Mentor, Spring 2015

"The mentorship program was a great opportunity for me to learn, be inspired, and broaden my HR experience. My mentor was fabulous and I would totally recommend this program!"

Amy Colvin, Mentee

"This is a great program for upcoming professionals. Meeting a senior-level HR professional is invaluable and my mentor helped me a great deal."

Sara Baier, Mentee

"I highly recommend the mentorship program. It's a great opportunity to learn from each other."

Erin Reeves, Mentor (Sr. HR Director, Urban Airship)

"Great framework but flexible to get out of it what you need/want. Highly recommend!"

Rosa Park, PHR, Mentee

"The PHRMA Mentorship Program has given me the opportunity to volunteer in a personal and meaningful way. During my time as a mentor, I’ve had the chance to remember what it’s like to be new to HR and have been challenged to ask great questions, motivate creative problem solving, and to encourage risk taking. I’ve also learned a lot from my “mentee”. She’s inspired me to set bold goals and to persevere to achieve them. What a gift!"

Dana Pratt, Mentor

“The experience of watching another person’s self-confidence grow is truly rewarding.”

Christine Ford, Oregon State Bar

“I enjoy mentoring – it gives me the opportunity to share some of the insights and successful approaches I’ve learned over the years, and get a chance to see HR from a different perspective.”

Michelle Candelaria, Kohler Co.

"I encourage HR professionals who are ready to give back to their profession or pay-it-forward to others, explore opportunities to formalize their mentor skills through PHRMA."

Jenny Sherman, Dir. of Human Resources, Willamette View
